The Friesian is a horse breed originating in Friesland in north Netherlands. As use in agricultural pursuits declined, the Friesian became popular for recreational use both in harness and under saddle. Often you will see Friesians in the dicipline of dressage, or in harness pulling traditional carriages designed for Friesian horses called a “sjees”.
